Osama bin Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden (/oʊˈsɑːmə bɪn moʊˈhɑːmɨd bɪn əˈwɑːd bɪn ˈlɑːdən/; Arabic: أسامة بن محمد بن عوض بن لادن‎, Usāmah bin Muḥammad bin ‘Awaḍ bin Lādin; 10 March 1957 – 2 May 2011) was the founder of al-Qaeda, the Sunni militant Islamist organization that claimed responsibility for the September 11 attacks on the United States, along with numerous other mass-casualty attacks against civilian and military targets. He was a Saudi Arabian, a member of the wealthy bin Laden family, and an ethnic Yemeni Kindite.

He was born in the bin Laden family to billionaire Mohammed bin Awad bin Laden in Saudi Arabia. He studied there in college until 1979, when he joined the mujahideen forces in Pakistan against the Soviets in Afghanistan. He helped to fund the mujahideen by funneling arms, money and fighters from the Arab world into Afghanistan, also gaining popularity from many Arabs. In 1988, he formed al-Qaeda. He was banished from Saudi Arabia in 1992, and shifted his base to Sudan, until US pressure forced him to leave Sudan in 1996. After establishing a new base in Afghanistan, he declared a war against the United States, initiating a series of bombings and related attacks. Bin Laden was on the American Federal Bureau of Investigation's (FBI) lists of Ten Most Wanted Fugitives and Most Wanted Terrorists for his involvement in the 1998 U.S. embassy bombings.

From 2001 to 2011, bin Laden was a major target of the War on Terror, as the FBI placed a $25 million bounty on him in their search for him. On May 2, 2011, bin Laden was shot and killed inside a private residential compound in Abbottabad, Pakistan, by members of the United States Naval Special Warfare Development Group and Central Intelligence Agency SAD/SOG operators in a covert operation ordered by U.S. President Barack Obama. The United States had direct evidence that the ISI chief, Lt. Gen. Ahmed Shuja Pasha, knew of Bin Laden’s presence in Abbottabad, Pakistan.

After 9/11, Osama shared his views like this - God knows it did not cross our minds to attack the Towers, but after the situation became unbearable—and we witnessed the injustice and tyranny of the American-Israeli alliance against our people in Palestine and Lebanon—I thought about it. And the events that affected me directly were that of 1982 and the events that followed—when America allowed the Israelis to invade Lebanon, helped by the U.S. Sixth Fleet. As I watched the destroyed towers in Lebanon, it occurred to me punish the unjust the same way: to destroy towers in America so it could taste some of what we are tasting and to stop killing our children and women.

Yes, he was wrong. An attack for revenge always leads to destruction!

Osama bin Laden was an international terrorist, religious extremist, and founder of the radical jihad organization Al Qaeda. A devout Sunni Muslim, as a student bin Laden was devoted to religious study, and after graduating used his wealth to fund religious resistance fighters in the Soviet War in Afghanistan. The organizations he founded helped to supply arms, resources and training to militant religious factions in Saudi territory. When the Saudi Arabian government sanctioned the deployment of U.S. troops on Saudi soil, bin Laden spoke out vocally against his own country and was eventually banished to Sudan where he continued to grow his resources and fund jihad. After his organization failed an assassination attempt and was exiled from Sudan, he returned to Afghanistan and declared war on the United States with a fatwa entitled the 'Declaration of War against the Americans Occupying the Land of the Two Holy Places.' He began a series of coordinated attacks on the U.S. embassies in East African cities and many other international sites until his war crimes culminated with the ‘World Trade Center’ attacks. In the United States bin Laden became public enemy number one, and was wanted internationally for his violent attacks on unarmed civilians

Osama bin Laden was born in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia in 1957 or 1958. He was the 17th of 52 children born to Mohammed bin Laden, a Yemeni immigrant who owned the largest construction company in the Saudi kingdom. Young Osama had a privileged, cosseted upbringing. His siblings were educated in the West and went to work for his father’s company (by then an enormous conglomerate that distributed consumer goods like Volkswagen cars and Snapple beverages across the Middle East), but Osama bin Laden stayed close to home. He went to school in Jiddah, married young and, like many Saudi men, joined the Islamist Muslim Brotherhood.

Watch a documentary on USA seal teams and see the level of intelligience they have.

Look at how things are done in America and realize you only survive if you are smart.

Osama seemed to know that

HE lived to be most wanted for so long, they would not trace him

For this reason , i would say he was strategic, scheming and cunning

In his book Osama bin Laden, Michael Scheuer, the former head of the CIA unit that pursued the terrorist mastermind, notes that “virtually none” of the many works written about bin Laden emphasize his “strategic ability.” Since bin Laden’s passing, we have largely continued to overlook his acuity as a strategist even though the plans he forged for combating the West have severely weakened his foes, and even though we still contend with them today.

Smart enough to receive arms and supplies to fight the Russians in Afghanistan. Smart enough to earn a degree in civil engineering in 1979 from King Abdulaziz University in Jeddah.

"It has been claimed that the CIA had ties with Osama Bin Laden's al-Qaeda and its "Afghan Arab" fighters when it armed Jihadist groups against the Soviet Union during the Soviet war in Afghanistan."
