Nikola Tesla was a Serbian American inventor, electrical engineer, mechanical engineer, and futurist best known for his contributions to the design of the modern alternating current (AC) electricity supply system.

Tesla gained experience in telephony and electrical engineering before emigrating to the United States in 1884 to work for Thomas Edison in New York City. He soon struck out on his own with financial backers, setting up laboratories and companies to develop a range of electrical devices. His patented AC induction motor and transformer were licensed by George Westinghouse, who also hired Tesla for a short time as a consultant. Tesla went on to pursue his ideas of wireless lighting and electricity distribution in his high-voltage, high-frequency power experiments in New York and Colorado Springs and made early (1893) pronouncements on the possibility of wireless communication with his devices. He tried to put these ideas to practical use in his ill-fated attempt at intercontinental wireless transmission; his unfinished Wardenclyffe Tower project. In his lab he also conducted a range of experiments with mechanical oscillator/generators, electrical discharge tubes, and early X-ray imaging. He even built a wireless controlled boat which may have been the first such device ever exhibited.

Tesla's achievements and his abilities as a showman demonstrating his seemingly miraculous inventions made him world-famous. Although he made a considerable amount of money from his patents, he spent a lot financing his own projects. He lived for most of his life in a series of New York hotels although the end of his patent income and eventual bankruptcy led him to live in diminished circumstances. Tesla continued to invite the press to parties he held on his birthday to announce new inventions he was working on and make (sometimes unusual) public statements.[8][9] Because of his pronouncements and the nature of his work over the years, Tesla gained a reputation in popular culture as the archetypal "mad scientist." He died on 7 January 1943.

Tesla's work fell into relative obscurity after his death, but since the 1990s, his reputation has experienced a resurgence in popular culture. His work and reputed inventions are also at the center of many conspiracy theories and have also been used to support various pseudosciences, UFO theories and New Age occultism. In 1960, in honor of Tesla, the General Conference on Weights and Measures for the International System of Units dedicated the term "tesla" to the SI unit measure for magnetic field strength.

was able to conduct electrical experiments nearly two centuries ago that scientists still have difficulty replicating today, and some of which have not been duplicated since his lifetime. Even more admirable than tesla's unparalleled genius, however was his empathy and concern for the betterment of human society as a whole. Illustrated in his desire to give the world an unlimited supply of free electrical energy. Tesla was not seeking to make a profit off of his genius, but instead wanted to improve upon the living conditions of not only his contemporaries, but also for their descendants and the future generations that would follow. An exemplary individual in every sense of the word, and if his name were to be fully claimed by the annals of history, and his memory completely forgotten, it would be a great tragedy to the many that would be deprived of the knowledge of his character and contributions.

The fact that tesla isn't 1st only shows how ignorant people are about him, he's by far the more intelligent person ever. Einstein is dumb compared to him.
What he made? Well we have this modern civilization thanks to him, that's all.

If you mean the man who really invented, in other words, originated and discovered not merely improved what had already been invented by others, then without a shade of doubt, Nikola Tesla is the world's greatest inventor, not only at present, but in all history.

Nikola Tesla was one of his kind. IQ tests were not conducted during Tesla's time, but it has been estimated that he posses his an IQ of 200 .
To show importance of value have look at IQ of some great scientists:
Einstein: 160
Stephen Hawking: 160
Charles Darwin :165
Copernicus : 162
Leonardo Da Vinci: 210
Just adding a pic from Page on oatmeal.com Have a look at it you will understand power of Tesla's brain

He has made phenomenal contributions to science and has been classified as the “world’s greatest electrical engineer.” Nikola engaged in studying many works, memorizing complete books, and supposedly had a photographic memory. Tesla had above average brain power and was an advanced thinker when compared to others of his time.

He was a total genius. He could do almost anything, but because of the lacking business mind, he didn't use up his full potential (maybe only 30%). He was the smartest person ever since he could imagine things and know exactly how it worked.

Nikola Tesla is the greatest scientist ever. He found a way to supply the world with limitless, clean and affordable energy. Tesla had a gift for making his imagination tangible, while other great minds used their imagination to create blue prints for others. He certainly shaped the modern world, though
Newton, Einstein and Darwin would all be very good contenders for the top spot as well.

Nikola Tesla invented many of the technologies we use today. Albert Einstein was smart, but his main contributions to the world were theories. Tesla changed the world with the creation of the radio, AC generator, and etc. Tesla brought the world in the light, literally. Everything runs on an AC generator. Yet most people don't even know his name. Unbelievable!

Einstein was amazingly intelligent but he was assisted by his very intelligent wife and and an assistant. Nikola Tesla was a complete lone wolf.

Tesla Motors is named after electrical engineer and physicist Nikola Tesla. The Tesla Roadster uses an AC motor descended directly from Tesla's original 1882 design.
