Like all employees of the FBI, James Comey lives off the sweat of the American taxpayer. His large salary, upon retirement, will be converted into a very generous pension. Like most federal employees in a high ranking position like his, Comey continues to look forward to decades of living at a standard of living far above what is experienced by ordinary people in the private sector.

To maintain this life of comfort, all he had to do was agree to look the other way as a powerful politician clearly — by Comey's own admission — broke federal law.

Naturally, this same treatment would never be afforded to an ordinary taxpayer, who would likely be looking at years in federal prison for offenses similar to that which Hillary Clinton has apparently committed. Moreover, Comey even went out of his way to do his best to ensure no federal prosecutor would proceed with charges when he claimed that "no reasonable prosecutor" would proceed with charges. It wasn't enough for Comey to simply not recommend charges. He had to pre-emptively condemn any prosecutor who might proceed with charges.

Some have claimed that Comey was forced to cave to Obama administration pressure in order to protect his family. Of course, Comey could have resigned his position rather than take a position he regarded as unethical. Then the task of clearing Clinton would have fallen to Comey's successor. There are precedents for this. When ordered by Nixon to fire the special prosecutor in the Watergate scandal, Attorney General Elliot Richardson resigned rather than do what the president mandated. Comey could have done the same, but then he would have had to give up some of his comforts and privileges. To find work, he might have had to move to an unexciting place like Indianapolis or Albuquerque.

Nevertheless, Comey has accidentally done us a great service by publicly exhibiting the true nature of the FBI: it is a political organization that expands the reach and prerogatives of the federal government over citizens and taxpayers, while protecting the powerful.

Of all federal police forces, the FBI is the most romanticized, and every FBI agent is assumed to be the modern embodiment of a fictionalized version of Eliot Ness: incorruptible, professional, and efficient. Decades of pop culture has driven this home with TV series and movies such as The Untouchables, The FBI Story, and This Is Your FBI have long perpetuated the idea that when local police fail, the FBI will step in to be more effective and simply better than every other law enforcement agency. Corruption cannot touch the FBI, we are told, and they apply the law equally to everyone.

So FBI has hacked the iPhone and they got access through a device built by an Israeli company called “Cellebrite”. They had a contract with that company dating back to 2013 and it purchased thousands of these devices, so, they had the capacity all along.

The FBI is way behind the trend. They don’t have the capacity anymore to keep up with the changing technology. It’s a very tired organisation that doesn’t inspire creativity and innovation, and they need to follow other countries in expanding their hiring and structuring their security programs and their cybersecurity. They just haven't kept up.

So here’s a funny detail: director of the FBI has admitted to be covering his laptop camera with a tape to guard his privacy, which shows the lack of sophistication and understanding of technology within the FBI. If you want to lock the camera, lock the camera, lock the microphone, lock whatever you want. That’s available. The fact that the director of the FBI uses tape - tape! - instead of using the more sophisticated software that the rest of us use - scares me. If you’re the head of the FBI, and computer is 90% of your work and you don’t understand it, we have a problem either way you look at it; no matter how you approach this situation, it’s tragic and it bodes ill for me and you and all Americans.

The FBI was good at catching bank robbers. But they can't even catch the Anonymous nowadays, because of how far behind they are in the understanding of changing technology. That's how two fifteen-year old boys hacked into the FBI database and walked off with all the personal information of their undercover agents.

FBI Director James Comey let slip a general idea of how much his agency paid to a third party for software to break into the work phone belonging to one of the San Bernardino terrorists.
At London’s Aspen Security Forum on Thursday, a moderator asked Comey how much the FBI paid the as-yet-unnamed third party for the software to hack into the iPhone, Reuters reported.

"A lot," Comey replied.

"More – let's see. More than I will make in the remainder of this job, which is seven years and four months, for sure," Comey said, declining to give a more specific figure.

The FBI director earned $183,000 a year, as of January 2015, according to Reuters, which cited data from the FBI and the US Office of Management and Budget. Comey would thus earn $1.34 million over the next seven years and four months, assuming no raises or bonuses.

The highest amount the FBI had previously admitted to paying for a hacking technique was $1 million for US-based information security company Zerodium to break into phones, Reuters reported.

“It was in my view, worth it,” Comey said, “because it's a tool that helps us with a 5c running iOS9, which is a bit of a corner case, increasingly as the devices develop and move on to the 6 and 6s and whatnot and iOS's change, but I think it's very, very important that we get into that device."

There is some contention over whether or not the money was worth it, however.

Last Wednesday, anonymous law enforcement officials told CBS News that the FBI had not managed to find anything “of significance” on the device.

A week later, however, a different group of unnamed law enforcement officials told CNN that the phone “has helped investigators address lingering concern that the two may have [had] help, perhaps from friends and family,” adding that it “didn't contain evidence of contacts with other ISIS supporters or the use of encrypted communications during the period the FBI was concerned about.”

Israel’s Cellebrite Mobile is rumored to be the third party that the FBI paid to hack into the phone.

It is unbelievable that an intelligence agency like the FBI is so inept at computer. One cannot help but wonder how they're gonna protect our country against cyber attack. This iPhone hacking incident shed lights on why China gets away with cyber theft all the time. They are simply too good for the FBI.

FBI the intelligence agency is apparently not very intelligent. They should hire some competent hackers to do their jobs.
